Should I keep my radiator dust-free?
Do you need to clean your radiator regularly and keep it free of dust? That’s what Femke Brouwers from near Eindhoven wondered when, while installing the SpeedComfort, she finally looked between the dusty fins of her radiator. We think you should – and here’s why.
At SpeedComfort, we are of course experts in how heating your home works. When a radiator emits heat, this is called convection. And when that heat then moves through the room, we call it circulation. With SpeedComfort, we give this heat circulation a helping hand, so your home becomes comfortable more quickly. And you save on your energy bill.

Why dust doesn’t help the SpeedComfort
We also know this works even better with a clean radiator. Here’s why: if your radiator is dusty, it emits less heat. Dust effectively acts as an insulating layer. That’s the first point. And secondly, if there is a lot of dust between the fins, air circulation also works less effectively. The result: slower heating and a less even temperature throughout the room.
What now? Two small tasks
It’s good that you noticed the dust while installing the SpeedComfort. As far as we’re concerned, there are two small tasks to take care of. We would start by cleaning the radiator and removing the dust. This can be done with a radiator brush.
Naturally, you should also keep your SpeedComfort dust-free. Unplug it from the socket, make sure the heating is not hot, and wipe the device with a slightly damp cloth. Not too wet, and please don’t use abrasive cleaners. You can also carefully clean the fan blades, if needed with a mild vinegar solution. Again, do not make them too wet.
There you go; everything is dust-free again. Convection is working optimally, and so is air circulation.
